Continuing work on our Pollinators benefit project, this next piece is dedicated to the bats. Here is a little back story:
Bats are disappearing by the tens of thousands because of a disease called ‘White Nose Syndrome’. Scientists are unsure what is causing this disease. From an anthropocentric view, humans need bats to control insect populations and to pollinate the food we eat. Even more important, however, is the fact that these mammals deserve a healthy life span. They contribute a rhythmic, beautiful grace to our delicate ecosystem.
Please listen and share if you enjoy the work. We will soon be creating a project on KickStarter so we can raise money to have these properly produced (CD/Digipak/limited editions/etc.) in an effort to raise as much money for the conservation groups involved in helping the Pollinators (butterflies, bees, bats, birds).
Thank you for listening.
For those reading this in their Tumblr dashboard, here is a link directly to the EP: Pollinators EP (WIP).
In celebration of National Pollinators Week 2010 (June 21-27), please listen to a work in progress I am currently recording. Poet Michelle Seaman and I are working towards a concept benefit album for the pollinators (butterflies, bees, bats, birds). All proceeds from sales will be donated to organizations working to preserve and protect these species.
The songs in their current state are sketches and subject to change prior to final release (most likely DigiPak w/custom artwork, lossless download, etc.).
I will be updating this set as we complete the songs. #3 Hibernacula, for the bats, is being recorded and #4 for the birds will be next.
Thank you for listening - please share.

Summary:
#1 Aurelia is a song dedicated to the butterflies
#2 Apoidea is a song dedicated to the bees (honey & mason). With the dramatic decline in honey bee populations, there is intensive research going on about the possibility of ‘replacing’ them w/the mason bee. This is not as altruistic as it sounds given that there are huge economic factors at play. This song explores the quiet anguish of what it might be like to be forced, uncontrollably, into obsolescence.
In response to the devastating 2010 earthquake in Haiti, the Society of Typographic Aficionados issued a call to action to the typographic and design communities to participate in Font Aid IV. The result was Coming Together, an OpenType font that contains over 400 ampersand glyphs designed by participants from around the world. All proceeds from the sale of the typeface go to Doctors Without Borders, in support of continuing relief efforts in Haiti.
Close to 400 people from 37 countries submitted an ampersand design to this font. A full list of contributors is available on the The Society of Typographic Aficionados website:http://www.typesociety.org/fontaid.html
